Paddling Bio

I’m a paddler and instructor from the Canadian side of the lake. I’m a Paddle Canada Instructor Trainer, and have training in the ACA and BCU systems as well. While I have done numerous extended trips along the best parts of the Canadian shore, and have guided a bit, my favourite place to be on the water is in the waves, playing in the rough stuff. I love to work with paddlers of all levels, so I spend a lot of time traveling around the Midwest and to the coasts to make that possible. I’m grateful for the support I’ve received from both Werner and Kokatat.

Who am I?

I’ve been coming to GLSKS for seven or eight years, or maybe a couple more. The first time I came I was a very new instructor, probably more qualified to be there as a participant than as an instructor. I’ve made a lot of new friendships in the instructor community and in the paddling community at large since then. I’m happy to have been instructing with my wife here, and to have had my youngest daughter participate as an able assistant before she was even in high school.

My GLSKS Story

GLSKS has had several organizations come and go throughout its history. I’m grateful to each of those groups for their contributions to the community, and I’m grateful that another has taken up the reigns to continue the tradition. This event is driven by paddlers, and is located at one of the most ideal spots in the US Midwest. If there is one spot to visit this year (and you aren’t coming to Canada) this is it. If there is one event you are participating in this year, this should be it. I look forward to being in Grand Marais and seeing you all there.
